Visited with my husband, toddler and infant last week. The interior is cute and they were very nice. Great kid's menu, but the food was pretty blah. Guac tasted like mashed avocado only-- no seasoning. Our lunches were fine, but nothing to go back for. And oddly, at the end of the meal, our server asked how we were "doing the check today." I assumed he meant cash or credit, but he was asking if we needed separate checks. Seeing as how we were a mom/dad/two-kid group, it was the weirdest thing we've ever been asked in a restaurant.

Our server was excellent. He was very attentive, was able to make suggestions and answer questions, and seemed friendly and laid back. He was perfect for a beach-side casual establishment. The food was ok. It arrived fast and was tasty enough that we'd be happy to visit again. But there is plenty of room for improvement on the food. First, tortillas make or break a taco. I'm from Texas (recently moved here), and all the truly great taco places in TX are making their own tortillas - not buying factory-made ones that NEVER taste anything like a fresh homemade one. Having fresh tortillas would elevate Taco Mamacita to a whole new level. As-is, the unheated factory tortillas make the end product taste like Taco Bell. But the prices are affordable enough that the overall value remains ok, and with such great service, I'm happy to bring the family again. They're very kid-friendly, too which is always a plus for those of us with kids.

Met a friend here for a beer and we managed to dig through two full plates of chips with their "original" salsa. The chips were nice and large, perfect for scooping. Not greasy at all. Beer choices were decent and unusual. I had a solid local witbier - White Thai. Service was excellent. Sit outside if it's warm enough. Plenty of scenery walking by! As with most spots in this part of the Island, parking can be a real pita. I don't have any advice for ya there, other than be sure to park legally. Sorry!

My husband and I stopped by Taco Mamacita yeaterday for a quick dinner before taking a stroll on the beach. We waited 15 minutes without being greeted. We saw several servers come out on the patio, but none of them ever stopped to greet us; my husband eventually went up to the hostess to see where our server was. She apologized and said she'd send a server and manager out to speak to us. Our server came about 5 minutes later - he was very nice but we were already annoyed by the amount of time we had to wait. A manager never came out to speak to us and apologize for the wait. Needless to say, we will not be returning to Taco Mamacita anytime soon. The food was good when it finally arrived - but the wait and the fact that a manager never came to talk to us is enough to make me go to another restaurant who recognizes the importance of great customer service.

Loved it! The tacos were GOOD and lots of variety to choose from which makes it hard. The margarita was strong. I don't usually like queso but it, along with the guac and mango salsa (spicy) were good! My friend got the Memphis nachos which were very tasty. The other thing I got was the Mexican chopped salad bc it had the veggies I wanted. It was fairly good. I wasn't crazy about the lettuce choice, but the white balsamic dressing and the toppings were really yummy. The tacos totally hit the spot. WILL BE BACK!

If I could give this place 47 stars, I would! I borderline considered moving to South Carolina after eating here. On a recent, quick, three day trip to South Carolina, we stopped to eat at this hidden gem on Sullivan's Island. It was a quiet week day afternoon, and we were seated immediately and attended to by the cheerful staff, who quickly delivered chips and salsa to our table. This was not your average, hum-drum Mexi-snack. Hands down, the chips and salsa at this place were the best of the best. The chips were nice and crunchy, and the salsa...ooohhhh the salsa. It was ridiculously good. Ridiculously. As a vegetarian, I was extremely happy to see lots of vegetarian options! (They also have a vegan menu, which our diligent server told me about when I ordered my meal minus the dairy. Truly above and beyond service.) I decided on the Vegilladas with a side of black bean and corn salad. This meal was literally "holy cow!" delicious. The corn tortillas we prepared perfectly so they weren't weird and crumbly, and the filling was an amazing cacophany of vegetarian awesomeness. You could taste each item- the green chili rice, the sweet corn, the tomatoes- and they all blended so well together. The black bean side dish was just as expertly prepared. For dessert I ordered one of the specialty pops they bring in from King of Pops. The Chocolate Sea Salt was one of the best desserts I have ever had. The combination of It was a perfectly balanced, sweet, simple way to end such a glorious meal. As I mentioned above, not only was the food great, but the service was also superior. I was so impressed at our server's knowledge of the menu, as well as the actual ingredients in each entree and sauce. This is one of the things that makes Taco Mamacita such a prize. I absolutely cannot wait for another opportunity to head to South Carolina to re-visit this amazing restaurant. If you live within driving distance, I promise you it will be your new favorite Mexican adventure!

Taco Mamacita's is the cutting edge in bold flavor and wonderful combinations. The General Homeboy taco is especially good - trust me. This is not your typical 'Mexican restaurant' - it's a wonderful, fresh taste in food. Tacos of all kinds, great fresh sides, and amazing Mexican street corn. Service was prompt and efficient, and the restaurant is clean and adorably decorated in a rather eclectic fashion.

I recently visited Taco Mamacita during a trip to Sulivan's Island. My boyfriend and I had every intention of lunching at Poe's Tavern, however they were closed for lunch due to computer issues. Remembering the Quicksilver employee telling us the taco place across the street was pretty good, we decided to give it a try. I am quick to be critical of any restaurant, and i can say I have no complaints. We received a table quickly, and had amazing service, the prices are fair and the tacos are absolutely delicious! My boyfriend and I both went with the waitresses recommendations. I ordered the Taco Royale and it was exceptional, i am still thinking about it a week later! It is built similar to a double decker taco which is a lot of fun. My boyfriend ordered the General Homeboy and he was very impressed. We will definitely be back next time we head back down to Charleston, but maybe Mamacita should open up a place in Charlotte ; ) I would definitely be a loyal customer!

Taco Mamacita is a fun environment and delicious! I typically read reviews first before trying a restaurant and was a bit concerned with the mixed reviews of this place. Our server was wonderful! She was fast, helpful, quick to refill drinks, answer questions about menu items and recommend favorites. I tried the Strawberry Kiwi Margarita and it was delicious - I would definitely order again. The queso appetizer was delicious. In our party we had the whole enchilada which had three different types of enchilada. The chicken and beef were a little bland, but the vegetarian was okay - would not order again. The saving grace was the Mexican street corn. Additionally, we tried two tacos - Sloppy Jose and California Club. Sloppy Jose is a neat concept which could have been executed a little better - too much sour cream with not enough beef. California Club was delicious. I was on the fence between a 3 and 4 because of the Peruvian Chicken which was moist and tasty! This is a must try! The spices are flavorful without being over powering and plenty to fill you up with some leftover - well worth the price.

I had friends visiting with a total of six kids, and we'd received a recommendation for this place. They were very accommodating with the kids and baby, quick with a high chair and coloring pages. The margaritas a big, cold and utterly divine. We had the Cadillac and the Strawberry - both very fresh and not skimpy on the tequila. The kids menu made everyone happy, and the adults had the Peruvian Chicken, an assortment of tacos and the veggie enchiladas. The taco royale was good! The Peruvian Chicken was good! The street corn - yes yes yes! The other half of our food was completely bland. The veggie enchiladas are mostly rice inside and blah. Where are the veggies? The charros beans are tasteless. The side of rice was blah. Even the kids wouldn't eat much, other than the nachos. Overall, it's a fun place and kid friendly and you should go there even if you just get the margaritas. But maybe stick to the tacos?

All I can say is... Mexican street corn off the cob. It's delicious. And okay, that's not all I can say. This place is a pretty unique spot right in the thick of the businesses on Sullivan's Island. They have a pretty nice variety of tacos - my favorite being the California Club. Also featured on the menu is Peruvian chicken which is always a good meal. Each week they feature a special mojito and usually its really good. I highly recommend the strawberry mojito.. if you land on the right week, its a really nice treat on a hot day. If you've had a long week...the Cadillac margarita is great to put a bit of pep in your step. Biggest bummer... the service is usually pretty spotty. There are a few good folks that work there tho.

When visiting Sullivan's Island we always stop in here for a bite to eat and a few drinks. The bar area is awesome and they have a vast selection of tequilas. This is one of my favorite places for a margarita. The food is tasty and service has always been prompt. I love how the restaurant is open and airy. We usually try and sit on the front patio to people watch. I usually order tacos...the Oy Vey are my favorite! Oh, and the chipotle sauce is so damn good!

  • Meghan C.

Honestly, the margarita was expensive and the weakest thing I've ever drank. My iced tea Crystal Lite is giving me more of a buzz because of the chemicals in it. Promptly switched to beer and was much happier - the service was very nice, but sparse. We probably would have ordered a snack but she never came back until our drinks were empty and we figured we'd just head home at that point!

Great tacos and awesome location if you can get a parking spot on Sullivan's these days! Big outdoor seating with good people watching when the weather is warm. Definitely try the Mexican street corn side dish.

Hate to rip a place after only one visit. Our server acted like she wanted to be anywhere but here, it took a while to get our food. The gyro taco was ok the jerk chicken taco was dry. The jalapeño corn slaw was dry as well.

First time eating here while on vacation. Very inexpensive and expansive, creative menu. The vegetarian jerk was spicy and filling. I tasted the Memphis nachos and they were cheesy and tangy. Drink lots of water my friend to tame the zing!

Great place if you love tex mex but I was under the impression I was getting quality Mexican food. If you want chips and salsa the be prepared to pay for it which in my opinion should always be free at a Mexican place. Sat at the bar and was very unimpressed with the service the one bartender was in training still and the other wasn't helping him out at all. I purchased guac and chips for the group and had to add salt just to make it edible. The tacos were all on flour shells which is pretty typical for Americanized Mexican food but if that what you are as an establishment then please advertise it. The only reason this received a 2 star and not a one is because of the AMAZING TEQUILA SELECTION!! I'm a huge fan of tequila and that was a big plus for me. So all in all if your looking for a tex mex place then this is for you but if you want good Mexican food please keep looking.

Great location. Cool ambiance. Solid Service. Decent Food. If you want to stop there and take it for what it's worth, go for it. Taco Mamacita is worth a visit, but it wasn't the fantastic Mex eats I was hoping for. Our group of six grabbed a table (first outside and then inside because of the rain). The interior is very well done - low lighting, good looking bar, interesting decor...like an upscale cantina. Then we went along to order...this is what I tasted: Blueberry margarita: 3/5: While it's a very good looking margarita, there wasn't much going on besides the abrupt tang. It tasted too much like mix for me to order another. Strawberry margarita: 5/5: I actually tasted a friend's strawberry marg and it was de-freakin-lightful. Sweet but tangy, flavorful and delicious. Chips and salsa: 4/5: I was a bit taken aback that chips and salsa aren't served gratis at every table. Nonetheless, we ordered a sampler which included them. Crispy salty chips and tasty, smoky chunky salsa. Guacamole: 3/5: Part of the app sampler...guac was definitely fresh but lacking in flavor. I was adding hot sauce because all I could really taste was avocado...no spices, no lime juice, cilantro etc. The Whole Enchilada: 3/5: I went with the enchilada sampler so that I could try each of the three. Enchiladas were fairly sized and packed with three different fillings...the brisket rancheros being my favorite. The vegetarian was the most lackluster of the three...feta cheese doesn't really jive with an enchilada, IMO. The chicken enchilada was well seasoned but the bird was fairly dry...I was dunking it in that smoky salsa. Street corn: 2/5: I got this as a side item. Plenty of salt, pepper and a truckload of Meixcan crema. Listen, I love corn but the heavy Mexican crema completely overpowered to sweet little kernels. I like the idea...I didn't like the execution. Taco Mamacita is definitely worth a trip, especially if you're traipsing through Sullivan's Island. Here's hoping they work through some kinks in a few of the menu items!

This is a laid back and affordable taco place just a few blocks off the water. They have a creative variety of tacos, and each one that I tried (four) was delicious. Only drawback is they charge for chips and salsa.

My family loves this place! It's close to the beach so parking is sometimes difficult. Our trick is to go on a Sunday, early afternoon. We have never had to wait doing it that way. The kid menu is wonderful! Easy, beach atmosphere. Food is to die for!

YES! We were in town Sunday Jun 22 for the weekend. Never been there before. Wife and I were looking for something cool and casual for dinner. She saw someone eating nachos outside as we walked by and had to go eat there. We sat outside and people watched. We had the Nacho mama, and then the Double taco (forgot the name) and the California Club tacos. I had the Mexican street corn side. All the food was great, as were our strawberry margaritas! Eat here! Service was pretty good, but were were not really in a hurry.

This place would've earned 5 stars, had there not been a piece of plastic in my date's chicken club taco. Let me explain. We came here on a Friday night around 6:00 and had no trouble getting a table on the patio. We started with the dip sampler (salsa, queso, and guac) and mmm, I loved the guacamole! We each had a margarita as well. I forgot to try his, but the blueberry margarita is definitely something I'd get again! As for the meals, we both got the $8.99 combo with 2 tacos and a side. The blackened mahi taco was a bit too spicy for my liking but the shrimp was amazing with the perfect crunchiness and a great tangy sauce! If you don't try it, I just don't know what you were thinking...! The Mexican street corn was yummy as well. I cut it off the cob, as it'd be super messy to eat as is. Do you have to request it off the cob? On to the other meal...my date thought the the carnitas and california club taco were pretty good, though the same can't be said for the several inches of plastic wrap he bit into. He showed it to our waitress (not complaining, just letting them know what's up with their food), who immediately acknowledged that it wasn't okay and apologized. A manager came to speak with us and briefly explained how they prepare the chicken (something about wrapping it in plastic and cutting it whole, I think) and offered to get him a different taco (he declined). We weren't upset, as both of us have worked in food/bev for years (as service, kitchen, and management) and understand that things happen. We continued to finish our meals and our server again apologized and said she had the manager take care of it. Well, he KIND OF did. You see, he did in fact take the chicken club taco off the bill, but that didn't add up as a la carte prices are slightly more so instead of paying $8.99 for 2 tacos and a side, we were now paying $3.99 for 1 taco and $2.50 for a side. The value of the missing taco was another $3.99...so yes, while our check seemed lower in price it's not equal. Either take an extra side off or comp my date's meal (which would probably have been done if we were jerks about it - that's just not our style). Do you see how we paid $1.50 more than we should have? Not the biggest deal in the world, but that doesn't seem right. I forgive the mistake. However, no one wants to eat food with plastic in it and then overpay. Ultimately, I want to come back...I loved my food and drinks a lot, our server was great, and sitting outside on Sullivan's and going for a beach walk afterwards is great. Just be careful what you chew.

A great spot to sit outside with your doggie. Fun menu with several veg options. I prefer corn tortillas but other than that my Vegetarian Jerk Taco was really good and fresh with crunchy cabbage and a zesty sauce. Lol... ZESTY! I wanted an interesting margarita that wasn't overly sweet but our server couldn't recommend one so I just got their standard which was nothing I'd order again. Not fresh tasting or potent. My son got nachos and sub'd beans for chicken. He liked them except that, despite being a kid's menu item, they had jalepenos. We had a couple of their specialty Popsicles for dessert. Slightly overpriced at over four bucks a POP (literally! Hehe) but the atmosphere made up for it. A bunch of TV's inside and big comfy looking booths would make this a great gametime hangout. I like their logo of a sassy pinup style mamasita but I think the girls uniforms should be more inline with it. At least swap the tired looking khaki shorts for black skirts. Nobody but boring American tourists and those stuck in 1995 GAP hell wear khaki shorts. Oh man ... if I ruled the world. Fun spot. I'll be back.

Ok maybe an off night? I really wanted to like this place but could not. The impression I got upon arrival was "Chain restaurant" the ambiance just was not there. I was convinced by our server that the Peruvian chicken was just like in "Peru" as she had been there, and it would be fall off the bone and juicy. Mmmm not sure how they do things in Peru but it was not as advertised. My food was luke warm and had a crunchy sand like texture with every bite. The chicken I found to be bland and not fall off the bone, I have had better from Walmarts rotisserie on a Sunday. My daughter had the chicken taco and again same thing cold, bland ect.... Pro: Server was nice and attentive Sweet tea was good Cons: Food and quality below par

Nice looking place, always wanted to try it. We were sat at the outside bar facing the road, kinda nice to watch the people go by and we settled in for a stay with drinks and dinner. I guess the waiter had other ideas, he passed by us 6 times, never stopping, after sitting there for almost 15 minutes we watched a large group of younger people come in from the beach and pull some tables together to sit just behind us, like a flash he was all over that table, maybe he thought the girls were better looking then my GF, maybe he thought that they would tip better, he didn't get a chance to see, we wondered down to Home Team, where I was treated much better. Thanks Home Team

We ate here tonight on the patio. We were really happy because of allowing our dog. The Peruvian Chicken was excellent and had great spices. I believe lime juice was part of the marination. They bring 2 dipping sauces. Both are delicious. You have 2 sides that you can choose. I had the lime rice and the corn. Most people get the corn on the cob but they will cut if off the Cobb before serving. Both sides were delicious. I also had the Cadillac Margarita that was delicious with pomegranate juice. Service was excellent.

Location is great. Food is good. A la carte tacos or you can get a meal with 2 tacos and a side for 7.99 or so. Last time I was there I ordered a taco and the main chief in back came out personally to tell me one of the toppings was out so he wanted to give me a complimentary taco of my choosing. I thought that was awesome. The only problem was he told me tacos of the day when our waitress previously told us they had none. Service kinda sucks but food is decent. Street corn is to die for though.

This is a very good restaurant. But I got spoiled on Mexican food in California so this doesn't quite compare. If you want some quick bites before beach. This is a good place to go!

Yes, I am a big fan of Taco Mamacita! You can't really go wrong with any of the tacos here. I enjoy them way more than the other taco place in town, I think it's called Taco Girl or something. Also, Taco Mamacita has really great decor and a cool patio for taking in all those great Sullivan Island beach days! First, I am a big fan of chips and salsa but Taco Mamacita does not have the greatest salsa. It seems like it may come out of a can. So I would tell you to skip the salsa or try some other appetizer. The tacos, oh the glorious tacos. This is where Taco Mamacita really shines! All of the tacos here are delicioso! My favorites include: the General Homeboy, Oy Vey, Blackened Mahi, and Taco Royale in no particular order! Get the 2 tacos and a side deal for $8.99 and go with the Green Chili Rice! It is so freaking tasty. I just wish they would give you more of it. This leads me to the only downside of Taco Mamacita, it can get a little pricey. I just wish everything were a dollar less or they gave you a little bit bigger tacos. I love the tacos and the restaurant but it costs a lot of money to get full. If they could improve that aspect along with making a little bit better salsa they could easily be 5-stars!

The atmosphere is beach casual and loud! The cement floor and unbaffled ceiling just let the noise bounce! Luckily, it's mostly laughter. The art on the walls feeds the fun feeling. Kelsey was my waitress today. I was part of a group. She handled us like we were her only table! She was fast and friendly and kept everyone happy, even at her other tables. The tacos were as good as another taco place. I had a Carribean Jerk and a General Homeboy. Both exploded with flavor in my mouth. My side was the Green Chile Rice. That could have been a little better. The rice felt like it had been sitting out for a while, waiting to be served.

I wanted to love this place. Alas. The salsa is unappealing with a weird (pre-made?) flavor, not fresh-tasting like you'd expect. The taco quality is lackluster, but not off-putting. The service is very friendly and attentive, especially given how packed this place can get. The management's dicey, though: I was once there when a regular pointed out where she'd been charged full price for drinks that were on special. The manager could have just fixed the bill, but instead he made a scene. All of us within earshot seemed to feel awkward about it. Not a great vibe for a beach bar. If you really want to give this place a shot, I'd recommend a beer (their menu is pleasantly offbeat) out on the covered porch. If you want a taco, try Poe's across the street.

I was really surprised this place only had 3 stars on yelp. We went there the first time on a recommendation from a friend, so we didn't consult Yelp before. We've been back twice since that first time and it has been delicious every time. Great atmosphere, good deals on drinks (+ fantastic margaritas), and scrumptious tacos. We've only ever had the tacos and mexican street corn, but have tried different tacos every time and they've all been great. Taco Boy used to be my go-to fish taco place, but now that's changed to Taco Mamacita. It's also a good excuse to visit Sullivan's and walk on the beach.

I just returned from a vacation with my family to Isle of Palms and we dined at Taco Mamcita on one of our last nights. We had a table inside, but by the open air front and had a wonderful time. The food was AMAZING and I think I'll be dreaming about the sloppy joe taco for months to come...it was awesome. The Mexican street corn was also out of this world. My husband and I both got these items and couldn't stop talking about them the next day....YUM. I will definitely make a point to hit up Taco Mamacita next time I'm in the area (which is hopefully soon!).

A MUST to eat on Sullivan's Island! Go around 7pm and sit outside and enjoy the ambiance. Start with Chips and a Dip Sampler. Love the 'Oy Vey' Tacos. I recommend it without the Pico de Gallo. $8.99 for TWO tacos and 1 side. Get the Mexican Street Corn. Grilled buttery corn, with melted cheese and spices.

There's a New Hombre in Town... I have to say that Zia Taqueria has been perhaps my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Low Country. But knock me down and call me Shorty, there is a New Hombre in Town. Taco Mamacita recently opened on "restaurant row", aka Middle Street, on Sullivan's Island. Although there are two Mamacita locations in Tennessee, this is the first location to come to the Low Country. The owners, College of Charleston grads, fell in love with the area and proudly brought their restaurant here. We welcome them with open arms and nacho chips! We went to Taco Mamacita for lunch after a golf/museum outing with our favorite relatives who were visiting. I usually don't have high expectations for a new restaurant that's only been open a couple of weeks, let alone visiting at an off peak time, but I am happy to say it was simply, terrific. We were met by a very friendly hostess who quickly sat us in an oversized and very comfortable booth. One of our crew had to take a conference call so we slowed down our lunch order and started with the Appetizer Sampler. Tortilla chips, guacamole, queso and red salsa quickly arrived on an oversized (think deep dish pizza), pan. This was awesome. The bad part was that it was the kind of appetizer that you keep eating even though you know lunch in on the horizon. Is that really bad? Thankfully the conference call ended and we placed our lunch order. I have to say that the staff is tremendous. Anyone that passed our table was either refilling our drinks or asking if we needed anything else. A quick 15 minutes after ordering our lunch arrived. Three of the items arrived promptly and then there was the case of the missing Sloppy Nachos. Three servers stood by our table and deliberated where the Sloppy Nachos were. It appeared that they were served to the table next to us by mistake so our server quickly snatched them back. It was almost comical as we watched our servers hunt for the elusive Nachos. The Sloppy Nachos were topped with spiced ground beef, jalapenos, Jack cheese, sour cream and tomatoes were more than enough for the table to share even though they were ordered as a lunch item. The Shrimp Po'Boy BLT (there is a selection of 13 tacos to choose from), was delightful. Creole fried shrimp, spicy remoulade sauce, iceberg lettuce, pepperoncini peppers, crispy bacon, pico de gallo and jalapeno lime mayo topped a warm flour tortilla. We chose the Mexican Sweet corn as a side and this dish was a winner. My husband ordered two tacos and was quick to devour both of them. The Caribbean Jerk taco had roasted Caribbean jerk chicken, cabbage, mango salsa, refried beans, jerk sauce and peach aioli. I was fortunate to have a bite, and it had a wonderful slow heat to it, and I had taco envy. The Memphis taco was filled with slow braised pork, diced white onion, chopped dill pickle, jalapeno cole slaw, dry rib seasoning and BBQ sauce - a winner from start to finish. I found it interesting to see how many unique ingredients go into each and every taco. At $3.99 for each taco (with a side) this is a good deal. And then there was my lunch... I don't know how I do it, but I always end up ordering the wrong thing. Let it be said that I did want to order the quesadilla, but thought I should order the Peruvian Chicken since it was a signature dish and was advertised as the "best chicken you'd ever tasted" but sadly this was not the case. My chicken was very dry and lacked flavor. I mean zero flavors whatsoever. Nada. I thought that the side dishes that I ordered would be my saving grace, but they were subpar. The green chili rice sounded great, but was bland and cold. The black bean and corn side dish also lacked flavor. So while the rest of the table were in taco/nacho heaven, I was in chicken purgatory. The pluses at this restaurant far surpassed my dry, flavorless chicken and I would definitely recommend it. The staff is wonderful and the restaurant has a great energy to it and I am certain it is going to be a force (aka Nacho), to be reckoned with on Middle Street.

Delicious! And the cheapest meal we've had from a real restaurant while in Charleston, yet still satisfying. I had the Baja fish tacos and carnitas taco with Mexican street corn. The kids meals were also a reasonable price for actual good food (it's annoying paying 6 bucks for Kraft Mac n cheese) and my sons nachos were great.

AtmOsphere Food and sErvice is great. And it's a skip and a jump to the beach. The nachos and shrimp and fish tacos are the best. The decor is great fOr family or friends or just a couple's Night out.

Came on a Saturday and there was ample seating. There is a restaurant section as well as a bar section. Plenty of TV's featuring any and all sports. The staff was professional, and very helpful. They also have a big selection of housemade cocktails like their "frozen screwdriver"...all good. Margs kicked ass. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, which was some of the best I have ever had. The ingredients came fresh cut in a bowl, and when they bring it to the table, they then dump the broth in from a canter. As you work through the bowl, the fresh chicken and ingredients break apart and make the broth more and more tasty. Also had a "sloppy jose taco", sort of a gringo taco made of ground beef, jalapenos, fritos, and sour cream....tasty. They had plenty of other mainstream tacos selections on the menu. I want to try the beef brisket enchiladas. This place is different, and does its own thing, but it seems to work. Parking sucks if Poe's is busy across the street. It is also a chain, as my niece said they have one in Nashville, and this was confirmed by the maitre'd.

Beautiful location. Long wait because they were short staffed. If you're going for authentic Mexican, this isn't the place. However, they put an interesting spin on things and have lots of different tacos to choose from. I recommend the Memphis!

I am a Local and tried this place twice. As usual, food was over priced and not that good. Another tourist trap that makes it by purely on location. Tex Mex and you have to pay for chips and salsa. With drinks your bill will be about $50 for two people minimum. There are much better options - just look around.

Taco Mamacita's has some of the best chicken tortilla soup I have ever had. It tastes very fresh. The soup comes out with the chicken, tomatoes, avocado, lime and cheese in a bowl with the soup liquid on the side. It was refreshing and delicious on the rainy day we came in. Also had the guacamole- it was okay.

This isn't really their fault, but before I came, I had no idea this was a sit down restaurant place. I thought it was fast food! But I'm not holding that against them! The food was very good, and the waiter was so very accommodating! We had 8 people in our party and we all wanted different things cooked a specific way and with certain substitutions and he was cool about it! The annoying part was that the wait time was slow, and I was in a rush. Other then that, I got the nachos, and they were so delicious! I asked for queso on top instead of what they normally put, and it was GREAT!

First time meal here tonight. Had the Peruvian chicken with Mexican street corn green chili rice. First off, the chicken was amazing. Extremely tender and flavorful. The corn and rice were also very good with my preference being the corn. Service was average. I will def go back.

Good spot for an App or many frosted beverages........Tacos had by group were not viewed as "Good" by a long shot. Mahi-Mahi, Memphis, OYE Vey, Fish tacos were all very lack luster. Memphis Taco was way over powered by the large amount of BBQ sauce that wasn't very tasty. Oye Vey - Brisket was like eating boiled beef....really, really boiled beef.....bland, bland. Queso, chips and beer were fantastic though. Good location and chill atmosphere. Could of just been the time we were there.

Meh....I've had better nails this place perfectly. Everything is slathered in mayo or sauce....less is more Taco Mamacita...try fresh ingredients instead of heavy sauce for a great tasting taco. I have to admit, i'm on a roll of updating my Yelp! reviews and kind of forgot that I even ate here....my Yelp check in reminded me. Ate at Taco Mamacita late summer and it's now November and I haven't been back....not good. Better off at Taco Boy or Santi's.

Read the reviews and we were really looking forward to a tasty meal. Unfortunately this is NOT Mexican food so don't expect any when visiting. At best it's some sort of Southwestern type fare (I've never heard of feta with Mexican). We had the chips and salsa to start (which is considered an appetizer and you will pay for), they were decent. 2 Yuenglings and the kids had waters. Waitress was nice and fairly attentive. Kids had beef brisket taco and a sloppy joe taco, they ate them. My wife had a chix enchilada and i had a baja taco. Baja taco, fish was dry and in a weird smokey spice thing, i only ate one, my side was sweet potato fries which were tasty and filled me up. The chix enchilada my wife had was bland and she only had about 4 bites, thankfully she ordered the Mexican rice which was tasty- she was able to fill up on the corn and the chips. Thankfully the prices were low, $50 dinner for four. Look elsewhere if you are looking for Mexican- theres nothing remotely Mexican about this spot.

Fantastic! I love Mexican food and their tacos were excellent. My mom had the enchiladas and was very pleased with the tenderness of the chicken. We ordered the appetizer sampler which included queso, guacamole, and salsa. The salsa was a little smoky in flavor and the queso and guacamole were average. The guacamole is probably better if you order the full appetizer which is then made at your table. The service was great. Every member of the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and they all worked together well. I can't wait to go back.

Went yesterday for some after beach eats and I have to say it was pretty bangin. They will definitely be giving Poe's up the street a run for their money in terms of a good, casual, bar scene. Sloppy nachos were pretty tasty; they had kind of a sweet flavor to them. The guacamole was super fresh but I would have liked it just a touch spicier. Blueberry margarita was absolutely delicious, a bit on the sweet side but it was also super fresh. I will definitely be returning there post beach.

Coming from Los Angeles, which is a fish taco mecca, I have to say this place has the right idea. They have a great selection. I particularly enjoyed the vegetarian taco made with plantains as well as one of the shrimp tacos. Good place, great decor, nice waitstaff.

Sorry guys, if you're going to be like Taco Boy, you're going to have to step up to the plate. I was confused with their menu since in addition to tacos, you can get an American Cobb salad, a Greek Gyro or even a Peruvian Chicken dinner. I say pick one and strive to master it. Husband ordered some tacos and I ordered a salad with chicken. The salad was so pathetic and they literally added a thimble full of chicken. The tacos were cold and unappetizing. I will say that the service was friendly, but it certainly took a long time to prepare our sub par meals, given the fact that there were only guests at two other tables. The experience was so disappointing we swore we'd never betray Taco Boy again!

We visited this establishment just after it opened (my hubby visited it twice!). The wait staff was very attentive - almost too much. But were, without a doubt, fantastic when we learned my 2 year old loved their fire roasted corn. They made sure she was full and happy! :) The day I visited, my hubby and I shared 4 tacos - The one that they call the "Royale" is fantastic. I'd order two just for myself next time. The Memphis Taco was also really good. All in all, we'll go back when in the area.

I went here for the first time the other day for lunch. I was a little worried when we got there and there were only a couple of tables seated, but that worry soon left once we got our food. I had the blackened mahi taco and the memphis taco and both were delicious and generously sized compared to other similar places. The green chili rice I had as my side was middle of the road, but I don't expect great things out of a bowl of rice. My wife was a huge fan of their strawberry margarita as it was made with strawberry puree instead of flavored liqueur. The decor was nice as it wasn't your typical cheesy mexican style you see everywhere else. I felt prices were in line with the amount and quality of food you were getting. My only complaint would be to offer free chips and salsa! I will definitely add this as a place to frequent.

Great alternative on Sullivan's because, let's face it, you can't always get a table at Poe's. Lots of modern twists on the taco - the brisket taco is yummy - and great sides. Good sangria. Big, fresh salads (hubs had the Cobb salad and I'd be tempted to order that if I was a salad-ordering type). Staff is friendly. Service is prompt. Place is clean. Big TVs at the bar. But would it kill them to give out free chips and salsa? If I could, I'd knock 1/2 a star off for that infraction.

Kelsey, my server, took my coke and didn't ask if I was done with it. She also tried to clean my table while I was still sitting at my table. She kept asking if we wanted to take our water to go. This was their method of trying to make you leave. Don't go to this restaurant as it has poor service overall. Keep your money and eat in Charleston instead.

Sooo first off, I have to say that the servers staff and management were fantastic. Really better than any other joint in town. The food, umm, disgusting. We ordered some nachos, and the sloppy joe's were recommended. I didn't literally think they were going to serve us 3rd grade sloppy joe mix, but yep, that is what is was. Except I remember it tasting better. Plus, there was this weird white stuff artistically (cough) decorating the top. Turns out it was, according to them, cheese. Think white cheese wiz. Some un-holy amalgamation of chemicals. Give me vampire blood first, please sir may i have some more. So they bring out the nachos and I thought it was desert, wow, soooo much sugar. Just rude food. Food rude. You say potato........you get the idea. Kindly they gave us another nacho plate, but same cheeze wiz. IS IT so much harder to use actual cheese? I think not. The gyro (yeah go figure) taco was recommended. Enough salt to put you in the hospital. No, really. I had an argument with my friends, one said it was the feta, the other friend said it was the meat. Obviously feta is salty. Cheap feta is nasty salty. Yes on both accounts. My mistake putting a slab of grey (meat???) into my moth unadorned. bleh. But the worst part? The nachos were cold. The tacos were served REALLY cold. Now I am not saying not hot. I'm not saying warm. I'm saying COLD. But I liked the staff.

Street Corn!!!!!! Its amazing I live on James Island and yes I will drive all the way out there just for a side dish. I used to try and order something else as well but really I just want the street corn. Its not that anything else I ordered was bad it just wasn't this awesome :) The corn is naturally sweet and it has a spicy sauce with just the right kick topped with cheese!! Doesn't get any better LOVE IT!! The chips and salsa get a thumbs up as well! The out door patio is nice..oh and skip the margaritas.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. Both salsas were good, as were the queso and chips. This is how I form my first impression of a Mexican place and this place didn't disappoint. Peruvian chicken was really good too. Liked the rita options and the fact that the place was loud made it a great option for an early dinner with kids. Will go back next time I'm in Charleston.

The first time I went to Taco Mamacita I was hungover so I didn't really get a feel for how the food tasted. This time around, I went sans hangover. I got the General Homeboy (Panko breaded shrimp with a sweet Thai chili sauce, shredded cabbage, sliced radish, green onions and cilantro. Served mild or spicy) Get the SPICY! This taco is so delicious, it'll make you wanna slap your mama.....cita! See what I did there?! Haha! I also got a Caribbean Jerk taco. This is a vegetarian taco and I was shocked by how much flavor it had. The taco consists of Sautéed plantains served with shredded cabbage, mango salsa, refried black beans, spicy Caribbean jerk sauce and a peach aioli. The mango salsa and teh plantains truly make this taco! As far as sides are concerned, the jalapeno corn slaw is always good, but my favorite is the mexican street corn. It has some kind of cheese and sauce lightly put on it that just gives it an extra punch. The chipotle greens are good too. I would pick the slaw or the corn over them though. Each taco is close to $4, but you can get a meal (2 tacos and a side) for $9. The drinks here are pretty amazing and I suggest you just close your eyes and point on the drink menu...you will end up with a good adult beverage no matter what. An added bonus about this place is that they serve King of Pops popsicles. These are so so so so good!! You can tell they are made from real ingredients instead of frozen concentrate. They have peach, banana pudding, watermelon sea salt, and chocolate sea salt at this location. I have tried all of them and it makes me sad I cannot get them in Texas. They are just that good! A little pricey since they are $4 a popsicle, but they are worth it! The banana pudding was my favorite but try them all if you can! You won't regret it!

Not very good. Went in on a Thursday and the place was dead. Ordered the Peruvian chicken, some nachos and fish tacos. The Peruvian chicken was outstanding but the nachos were very stale and the fish tacos tasted old. The management was carrying on with the servers and had no idea what was going on in the dining room. The restroom was disgusting.

I've stated in reviews for nearly every mexican restaurant in Charleston...it's just not awesome. Stellar mexican food just cannot be found here. However, I've gotten used to Taco Boy, Zia and Los Reyes for my 'mexican' fix. We decided to give Taco Mamcita a try after hating Poe's Tavern. Service was excellent, he was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. He gave honest reviews of some of the dishes. After a quick chat, we ended up ordering a Strawberry Margarita which was the best I've ever had. We then split nachos and a salad. Both portions were decent and the food was flavorful and fresh. We sat outside on a 70 degree day and it was absolutely lovely.

What could honestly be better than sitting outside in the sun at Taco Mamacita after a nice long day at the beach on Sullivan's Island? Nothing. That's right - nothing. I consider myself a serious Mexican food enthusiast, and absolutely NOTHING compares to Taco Mamacita. I was pleasantly disgusted by my first (and last) experience at Taco Boy...wondering if everyone on Folly has simply never been to Sullivan's to enjoy the delight of Taco Mamacita. In addition, I have always been told Poe's is the place to go on Sullivan's, but every chance I get I can't help myself but to go straight for the tacos. When anyone is visiting, I am most excited to take them here...yes, even with all the wonderful restaurants in downtown Charleston. The beautiful weather for St. Patrick's Day this past weekend thankfully gave me no excuse not to head over to Sullivan's and indulge in TM. Start off with the "appetizer sampler".. fresh guac, UNBELIEVABLE queso, and the roasted tomato salsa. The delicious chips are always gone by the time the waiter comes back to check on my table, in which they promptly refill the pan so we can practically lick the bowls clean of dip. 2 tacos and a side for $8.99 - that is basically every college student's dream. Cheap, delicious, and large portions. I will tell everyone I know to get the "Taco Royale." I may be biased (because I've never NOT gotten it) but the "double stacked" soft/hard shell combination is unlike anything I've ever experienced. I honestly am in shock every time I take that first bite at how amazing just the two shells can be. Not to mention the savory chicken and toppings, especially the crumbled chorizo giving it a nice crunch. The chipotle cream sauce is like heaven in my mouth. I went out of my comfort zone and started to order the "Sloppy Jose Taco" after trying a bite of my dad's one time, and I've never looked back. The impossibly clever combination of spicy ground beef and fritos blows my mind. Topped with my favorite - sour cream - and it is a beautiful experience for all. (My friends rave about the General Homeboy, although I am not a fish taco fan and have never tried it.) I always go for the simple black bean and corn salad as a side - I like to occasionally add the corn to my Royale. The sweet potato fries are also apparently a crowd favorite (at least among my party), though I am not a sweet potato lover either. I honestly wish I could muster up the courage to try something new, but I love the app, 2 tacos, and side too much to pick something else...unless I was given the opportunity to visit Taco Mamacita twice in one week (maybe). I occasionally finish off with a Chocolate Sea Salt popsicle courtesy King of Pops and delicious if I have enough room after such a fulfilling meal. The staff is friendly, quick, and accommodating always. Can be a little slow at busy times, but the atmosphere makes up for it. I usually have to be dragged away from the perfect combination of sun and taco heaven. The bathrooms are cool and always clean. The décor is awesome and not your typical tacky taco (woah) joint. The modern look, cool lighting, and oversized booths make for a comfortable dining experience. Overall, this is probably my favorite spot in Charleston and I have lived here for over a year and a half. If one of these were to ever make itself downtown, I'd be done for. It is safer for everyone involved to be a short drive away and not always at my disposal. Taco Mamacita is dangerous, watch out - you will be hooked.

I will give it a 5 star for the category it is in. It is a local casual dining place that you can get some really tasty mexican food at. THe margaritas are excellent, made from fresh squeezed limes. I sat there at the bar one night and watched the bartender pump 60 of them into this juicer. The tacos are great. The peruvian chicken there is amazing. The waitstaff (most of them anyway, and one of the female managers is very knowledgable) and the kitchen are very gluten-free friendly. I also had the club taco and blackened mahi taco, and they were both very tasty. Guac is also very fresh and tasty. Dont get the skinny margarita. Good concept, but if youre drinking anyway, the taste is so much better w real sugar. I felt like i just wasted money by getting the skinny one because i hated it. It is pretty noisy inside, but it contributes to the lively atmosphere. Waitstaff is very friendly. It is now 3 weeks old and still commands a wait at the busy times.

Came in around noon on Sunday, and the place was fairly busy. Seated quickly, and attentively by wait staff. Decor isn't that interesting, it looks and seems generic but it's not a deal breaker at all compared with what's to come. Had some drinks, Chipotle Bloody Mary was pretty good and wife enjoyed her mojito. Tacos are a nice size, for $9 you get two and a side. Didn't completely love the flour tortillas, but tried 5 or 6 of the tacos and all the flavors were pretty good. For sides, tried the mexican style corn which was good but lacked the cayenne and the queso that I've had at more traditional spots. But at least when I asked they brought me out a huge thing of cayenne. Wait staff was plentiful on a Sunday, and really nice. All in all, not a bad value and pretty good food. I have to say I would come here before Taco Boy just because the tacos are just as good and a bit larger.

We parked along the main street in Sullivan's Island and checked out our options for lunch. Taco Mamacita seemed to have plenty of indoor, air-conditioned seating (a real plus) as well as a decent menu. We got some chips and salsa as an appetizer (they charge for this, unlike a lot of chain Mexican places); the mango salsa was too mild. We got combo platters with two tacos each. My wife liked her gyro-style taco, and we both liked the jerk veggie tacos. This was a good place to relax and escape the heat, plus it was only 3 blocks to a post-lunch walk on the beach.

Very nice location near the beach on Sullivan's Island, good outdoor seating. The one thing that was the most disappointing was the fact that chips were not complimentary. Most Mexican restaurants will have chips that are complimentary, not this one. The street corn you can order off the cobb and it is delicious! Nice variety of tacos, 2 is filling for the average. I was in Charleston on vacation and I would recommend Mex-1 over this place if you are looking for Mexican and only have a couple days stay.

A Tennessee native (other locations in Chattanooga and Nashville), I was thrilled when Taco Mamacita graced us with their presence at Sullivan's Island a couple years ago. I've been to the restaurant dozens if times and have never been disappointed with the food or service! The El Camino is my favorite margarita in town -- especially for the $7 price -- gold tequila, Triple Sec, house-made sweet and sour, orange juice, and fresh squeezed lime juice -- oh my! Other fare favorites include the refreshing loaded gyro, shrimp po boy, and oy vey tacos. Tip: love the street corn but ask for it off the cob if you don't want to bother with the irritation of getting husk strands stuck between your pearly whites on a date!

After a stressful day down at the beach catching rays, Taco Mamacita is a great place to wind down. If you're looking for Mexican/American style food, drop by here for a good lunch. The place is pretty hard to miss considering it sits near just about every other restaurant on Sullivan's island. It's definitely walkable from the beach. They have a lot of seating inside and a small patio, only part of which is shaded. The barstool-type seating outside is for those who don't have to apply sunscreen every 30 minutes like I do. We walked it at around 3 or so and sat on the patio under the shade. I asked the waitor for a pitcher of their standard margarita and he said "We don't serve pitchers because all of the ice melts before people finish them". That sounds more like a challenge to me, and I'll gladly prove that wrong, but it sounds like a bit of a copout. Obviously I'm not going to get into it with a waiter. We all ordered the standard margs. To be fair to Taco Mamacita, they are actually margaritas, not premade marg mix and a bit of tequila. I had two different flavors and they were both tastey, even if there was a bit too much ice in it. Being freshly made does make a difference. There were three of us dining in and we ordered after the first round of drinks. They have a nice deal where you order two tacos and a side for $10 (I think). The tacos are stuffed full of fresh ingrediants. They definitely don't skimp of filling them up and two or three of these will be a meal. Since three of us ordered two tacos each, there were 6 different tacos. Turns out that half of ours were mixed up and one of mine was on my brother's plate. He ate it without even looking at what it was. Even through I had one wrong taco, I enjoyed both of mine. We all had the corn as a side and it is just perfect corn. You can't go wrong with it. I'll be back to Taco Mamcita again even if just for brunch before hitting the beach.

The BLT shrimp taco was amazing!!!!! Soooooo tasty! It's a must try! I also tried the carnitas taco but although it was tasty it was very greasy (and that I'm not a fan of) I also had a Mexican corn on the Cobb which was delicious. My husband had the BLT SHRIMP TACOS TOO and loved them but his cole slaw had no flavor. Overall the food was good and the service was great. I particularly liked the restaurants decor, it was pretty cool!

If you happen to find yourself on Sullivan's Island and craving Mexican, then Taco Mamacita surely won't disappoint. While I wouldn't make the trek out to Sullivan's just for the restaurant, Taco Mamacita is a fun spot to grab beers and tacos with friends. All of the dozen or so tacos are $4 each, which is a good price considering three will definitely leave you full. There are a ton of unique options besides your standard beef and chicken, such as the Loaded Gyro, Shrimp Po'Boy BLT, Sloppy Jose and Korean BBQ. The Mexican street corn for $2.50 is a definite must, served whole and doused in chili-lime butter and cheese. I also recommend splitting an order of the Memphis Nachos for the table, which are topped with a dangerously good melty cheese sauce, shredded pork and BBQ sauce. Must-order items: Memphis Nachos Mexican Street Corn Baja Fish Taco Caribbean Jerk Taco

Came here last Sunday and really enjoyed the "food part" meaning our waiter sucked! Didn't have a personality what so ever and was just not attentive to us at all. I got the special $3 sangria which tasted like pure rubbing alcohol. But the good part is that the food was delicious thank god! We started with chips and salsa and guacamole. The guacamole was our favorite it was so creamy and had good amount serving wise. The street corn was great just alittle messy. (They offer it off the cob so I might try that next time) the po boy taco was my favorite! Big well seasoned shrimp and I can't remember the other taco I got but for a deal of two tacos and a side for $8.99 I'll be going back.:)

Fun atmosphere, good service, ok drinks. I enjoyed the Pom Margarita but I wasn't a fan of the salsa trio. I had their chicken enchiladas which were decent, but my husband had their 1/2 chicken which was AMAZING. I'm going to be craving that chicken for a long time and I'm not usually a chicken person. Truly some of the best chicken I remember having in a long time and definitely a reason I will be go back.

The wife and I had reservations about Taco Mamacita when we discovered it was a corporate place on one of our favorite beaches. We were very pleasantly surprised. The Mexican Street Corn was amazing. I had a fish taco and a po-boy taco both which were great. My wife got nachos. They were very good as well. Service was good. Beer was cold. Parking was a bitch.

The Homeboy (shrimp taco) was our favorite. Drink specials are only during the weekdays but they rotate seasonal beers on tap.

I've been happy with the tacos, the yummy salsa, and the fabulous margaritas. The service when I have been has been pretty great. I still remember our waiters name, PJ. I never remember names! I've also had very friendly bartenders in the past. Minus one star because the Sangria in a carafe had way too much ice in it. In a carafe, there should be no ice when there is ice in my glass. How about replace all the extra ice, that filled our already iced glasses making our Sangria on a hot day water down, with fruit. If you are afraid of having too much alcohol for the price, fruit (which should be in sangria anyways) would be a GREAT substitute...

We ended up here by mistake! We were trying to go to the pub next door, but went through the wrong door and decided to give it a try. This is not your typical Mexican restaurant and I will say that I was disappointed by the short list of menu items. They have a few appetizers, a few salads, a few enchiladas, and a bunch of tacos. No quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, etc. They also have some interesting takes on the Mexican staples that they do offer. We ordered queso as an appetizer, which was delicious. I ordered a fish taco (panko breaded) and a sloppy Joe taco. The fish taco was great; the sloppy Joe taco just wasn't my cup of tea. My husband has enchiladas, which he said were good, but he wished the meat had been seasoned more. We both had Mexican street corn as our side; that stuff is AMAZING. You have to ASK to have it off the cob, though. Would we go again? I think we would!

Service was awesome and so was the margarita. I gave them a 4 because the food was good, but not awesome. I ordered the 1/2 chicken, which was great, but wished it came with tortillas.

Great tacos. Sangria got the spot on the hot afternoon we were there great people watching from the outside. Get the street corn!

Visited with mom and she won't eat anything that's not decently spicy and this place got a high five from mom. The tacos were a tad bit bland but their chopped salad with jalapeño ranch sauce had just the right amount of kick. Loved their gauc too. They had a hash n eggs for brunch which was delicious too. Must try if u are in the area.

I had a good experience at Taco Mamacita. I don't know that I'd want to make a special trip out to Sullivan's specifically to go here, but if I was spending a couple days out there, I'd definitely stop by. I went for brunch and we ordered a little from the brunch and the regular menus. I really liked the baja fish taco, although it was a little pricey. The 3 little pigs sandwich off the brunch menu was delicious and unique, but the homefries were disappointing. It tasted like they'd been cooked and reheated when I ordered them. But Harry liked them, so I guess maybe it's just a personal preference. We also tried the peruvian chicken with greens and mexican street corn. I definitely liked the corn here better than Taco Boy, and it was my first experience with peruvian chicken. It tasted pretty much exactly like rotisserie chicken, which was good, it just wasn't really what I was expecting. Also, the $3 mimosas were pretty delish. I'm interested in the strawberry coconut mojito I saw advertised as I was leaving.

Was a little underwhelmed with this place. The corn was super yummy and drinks were pretty good. But food was kinda bland. Parking for this restaurant is a nightmare you have to park along the street and it's very crowded. Good thing is its just a few blocks from the beach.

If I could give them a three and a half star rating I would. The food is tasty but there are still too many inconsistencies for me to warrant bumping them up to a four star. There are a couple of really great things that Taco Mamacita has going for it. The location, right along the main drag of Sullivan's Island, can't be beat. Parking is sometimes a challenge but that's not unusual for this area. The vibe and atmosphere are cool, with fun artwork, lights and a little more personality then you usually see in most restaurant chains. If you sit at the bar they have a cool game you can play where you can win free drinks, food, shirts, etc. The bar serves an impressive selection of Mexican beers and tequila. The food is a mixed bag for me. Their taco flavors are great ideas but they don't all work as well as you would hope. The Sloppy Jose Taco is better than you would think and one of my favorites is the Taco Royale, a double decker taco with a soft and crunchy shell. The Peruvian Chicken is tasty with a nice blend of spices without actually being spicy. The sides are what I usually find most lacking. The churro beans are served cold, which is a shame because I think they could be vastly improved with some heat, the collards are bitter and the rice is drab and on the gooey side. Definitely go with the Mexican Street Corn, it sticks in your teeth like a mo'fo but it's hard to mess up.

Have been here once or twice before, and was hooked the first time I walked into the place. Its open and airy, but yet still offers intimate setting if wanted. Nice bar area. Booth seating inside. They do have outside seating that is nice as well. It can get pretty crowded here on the weekends in good weather. They are also able (and usually do) open the wall/doors facing outside so that if you are inside, you get the waft of fresh sea air and some nice sunshine. The atmosphere here is always upbeat and fun. And its located a few blocks from the beach, which is always nice to go and walk after some food and libations. Servers are great. Insanely knowledgeable about the foods and drinks. Last time we went, they had just started brunch service on Saturday and Sundays, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. We had a pitcher of sangria that was delicious. Of course the margaritas are fantabulous, we just wanted something a little different. Apps can sometimes be big enough to be an entree. We usually get the app sampler - yummy yummy sample of queso, quac and salsa dips. Memphis nachos and sloppy nachos are to die for. Both are a must try. Tacos?? You want smack yourself good tacos??? The best ones are the Baja, California Club and Taco Royale. Servings are usually pretty fair sized. Kids menu is nicely diverse, with more than just the mexi fair. The brisket ranchero enchilada is amazing. And when you go to choose a side, try the mexi street corn. OH WOW!!! Great for family, large group or just a night/ brunch day out for 2.

I've been wanting to stop by Taco Mamacita's since I moved to the area, as it looked like the perfect post-beach happy hour venue one could ever hope for... I finally got my wish today, thanks to the fact that I was hosting some out-of-towners who wanted the whole Sullivan's experience. Fair enough! We grabbed some drinks after an afternoon at the beach and ended up chilling at an outside table for a couple of hours. Our waitress was a sweetheart and actually encouraged us to take our time. We ordered a couple of rounds: I got a "Black Cadillac" margarita; my friends ordered vodka / lemonades with club soda. All three of us were highly satisfied! We rounded off our drinks with some chips and guacamole. Guac was ok but nothing stellar, though I like my guac chunky and spicy: this was neither. What I did appreciate was the refill on chips that was extremely generous and the homemade chipotle, which was delicious! We ended up ordering some salsa as well, and it was really good! The actual food smelled tasty, but we stuck to chips & cocktails for the duration of our stay. Loved the atmosphere: chill, beachy vibe - totally laid back. We all bought t-shirts while we were there as well: they are adorable! Very retro, but super cute! Will definitely go there again!

Me and the family had just spent the day at the beach and needed a low key place to grab a quick bite. We weren't expecting it to be very good but were pleasantly surprised. Everything we ordered was so fresh and full of flavor. I was very impressed given it's outward appearance and would definitely recommend.

Not as good as people hype it up to be. Food was good but I can live without returning. If customer service were better I would definitely be back but it wasn't. Not a very friendly atmosphere. Good if you just want drinks t the bar close to the beach.

Fun little place on Sullivan's Island. Food was good, service was just OK. Thought the prices were a bit high, but it was Sullivan's Island in the middle of summer................. There are a couple of other good places nearby, so won't be trying Mamacita again anytime soon but may be back.

We sat at the bar and were going to just have a drink and maybe some queso and chips. Boy am I glad that we saw a nacho order come out first! We were quickly swayed to try the house nachos with brisquit... so glad we did because this was a top five ever nachos experience. Super tasty. Great local beers, huge tequila selection. Good bar service and fun atmosphere. Try this: we couldn't decide on a Sullivan's Island restaurant, so we created our own food and beer tour and went to several. They all have bar areas with full menu service, so don't be afraid to sample an item and a local brew at each!

Fair margaritas and very good tacos -- a gluten-free menu to boot with very educated waitstaff. Great for Mexican while on the island!

All the food that we got was pretty good I personally had the Three Little Birds Torta, off of the brunch menu, which was a very flavorful sandwich. I also had the Mexican street corn that was a little cheesier than I am used to. Realistically it was to expensive for what it really was and the inside booths could really use some TLC; because some of those cushions were pretty busted. Tip: Alcohol brunch specials only apply on Sunday

I totally had a fun time here. We sat outside, drank margaritas, ate chips and queso and tacos. I had both of the fish tacos offered and enjoyed them equally. This is an easy , fun, lively spot with good food and drink.

The enchiladas were ok, I've had better. The guacamole did not even taste like guacamole but more like some fake avocados and a very small dish of it for a Mexican restaurant. This place could be better.

  • Taylor G.

Very flavorful meal. We started with the sampler appetizer which allowed us to try the mango salsa, guacamole, and queso dip. All were delicious. For dinner we tried the black bean tacos and the highly rated street corn. It's in a very busy area for restaurants on the island - we parked down the street. Also, even though it was only two of us, there was a lot of seating for groups.

We went for dinner on the Monday after the Southern Ground Festival, after a nice nap on the beach. So we were relaxed and looking for a nice, relaxed place for a good meal and some drinks. I'm not a margarita guy, but when in Rome... I had a blueberry margarita and if I wasn't the driver I would have several more! The rest of our party had an El Camino, a Cadillac, and a strawberry margarita and everyone really liked them. We shared the chips sampler - cheese dip, salsa, and guacamole. The salsa was a bit hot for me - I don't like hot - but all were good. I had the enchilada suizas and they were great. Everyone else enjoyed their meals - good, solid Mexican food, as good as I've had at hem, which has a pretty large Mexican population and a few good restaurants. Our waitress was very friendly, and the service was good. The place wasn't all that busy, and a few times it took a bit long for her to come back, but overall it was a great experience and we would definitely come back next time we visit Charleston.

Very good price/value relationship. Beach town taco theme restaurant. Some interesting and creative Taco combinations make it fun to order different types to try out. Excellent Nachos. Great drinking establishment. Another good place to dine when trying out all of these choices in the area. Margareta mixer needed some practice the night we were there.

I went a couple weeks back, but comparing the tacos here from taco mamacita to other local places I have tried, the mamacita's tacos are the best!! Loved them! Also, the street corn was Devine! Great place! 5 5 5!

Went on a Saturday at lunch and they were super busy. More of a bar drinking scene. Nachos were below average. Too much iceberg lettuce and little to no beans and chicken. Soft tacos were good. I would try again on a week night when it is more quiet. Wait staff were friendly and on the ball.

  • Lauren B.

Tacos are better than Taco Boy. Beach is close. Good service. The Po' Boy Taco is the jam. The passion fruit sangria is also clutch.

We had dinner here on a Wednesday night. It wasn't too busy and we sat on the patio. Great location! I had the sangria (excellent), the taco royale and the blackened fish tacos. The fish tacos were super spicy- couldn't eat more than 3 bites but everything else was good.

    (4)
  • JR C.

We sat outside and had a couple drinks, but didn't eat. Sitting outside was awesome, though the margaritas were expensive, didn't taste very good, and were very weak. Their 'decent' margarita is the Cadillac margarita, and it's like $9. It tasted like there was zero booze in it, and not like it's so delicious, it hides the flavor of the tequila, more like there's no tequila in it. The beer prices were decent, but their selection is pretty small, and the servers don't know what they've got available.

Delicious tacos on the beach - what's not to love! Also, they have a pretty good craft beer selection and brunch on the weekends.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
